BIOGRAPHY

I was born and raised in Port Adelaide, attending Taperoo High School before studying Philosophy at the University of Adelaide.

During my early years at University, I worked as a kitchenhand in a pizza bar. This job sparked a life-long interest in equity and worker’s rights and drove me to take on a role with the Shop Assistant's Union, the SDA.

My initial 3-month role at the SDA turned into a 10-year job, during which I worked as a night fill organiser, area organiser and finally as Training Officer.

Assisting members who needed the support of the Union inspired me to pursue a career that would further the interests of working people across the State of South Australia.

While working with the SDA, I often volunteered my time with the Labor Party, working on campaigns at both a State and Federal level.

In 2011 I was supported to become the Assistant Secretary of the Labor Party of South Australia and was elected as the State Secretary in 2012.

The highlights of my time as State Secretary were being the campaign Director for the 2014 State Election victory – winning what was called ‘the unwinnable election,’ and the successful 2022 election campaign.

As a Member of Parliament, I have only strengthened my commitment to the importance of equity and opportunity for all South Australians.

Making sure that every young person in our state has the chance in life to explore, and to achieve, the best of their own potential is crucial to the success of our society.

Being able to contribute in the Parliament to the initiatives and reforms which seek to advance this ideal is a privilege I will never take for granted.

I serve on several Parliamentary Committees, including as Chair of the Legislative Review Committee, which role I was privileged to assume last year.

I am married to the love of my life and soul-mate and we share two fantastic children. My family motivate me to want to do more to create a better future for the people of this State. I am interested in sport (particularly cricket where I dream of returning to the park, if only my shoulder could handle it!), reading, travel and cinema.
